In June 2021, the Leaders Esteemed Bible University conferred her an honorary doctorate in humanities. In December 2022, she was appointed President of the Board Regis. These prestigious prizes are given to people who have excelled in their fields or service the community.

Dr. Matthews satisfies this qualification and goes above and beyond in her role as Executive Director of the non-profit Children of Diversity Foster Adoption Agency, which has offices in Beaumont and Houston, Texas. She is a tireless advocate for children who need families and is passionate about finding homes for every child waiting to be adopted.

She is a highly accomplished business professional with more than 15 years of experience. Currently, she is responsible for creating, planning, and implementing cost- and time-effective strategic strategies for the Children of Diversity Foster Adoption Agency company. She oversees the organization's daily operations as well as committee management, staff development, and the creation of business strategies in conjunction with the Texas Departments of Family and Protective Services and Human Health Services.

She holds the position of Texas Coalition Of Black Democrats Statewide and Harris County Accountability Chair.
